DOS2:Great War

The war between the Order and Black Ring

The Great War, also known as The Chaos War, was fought between the Divine Order and Black Ring in 1233 AD, 9 years before the events of Divinity: Original Sin II.

Overview

The war was instigated by Lucian's murder of Ygerna earlier that year. Despite Lucian's wishes, his son Damian had fallen in love with a member of the Black Ring, who spurred him to seek out his 'true' destiny. Lucian, suspicious of her motives, grew increasingly concerned that Damian would be led astray, and took it upon himself to slay the witch and sever any hope of their future together. Grief-stricken, Damian revitalized the Black Ring, waging war against his father in an act of vengeance. The Divine Order would have faced defeat if Lucian hadn't unleashed a weapon of Deathfog. All forces in the vicinity - friend and foe - were annihilated, Lucian included. The elven lands on which the battle stood upon were scorched beyond repair, and entire populations of civilian elves were decimated, their bodies still unburied to this day.

Voidwoken

Unfortunately, the subsequent year 1234 AD saw the emergence of strange creatures arising from Deathfog. Although Lucian's sacrifice ended the Great War, his passing left Rivellon defenceless without a Divine. To face the Voidwoken threat, Lucian's surviving son Alexandar is training to ascend. In the meantime, his advisor Dallis 'The Hammer' convinced him to bring Sourcerers to Fort Joy in order to mitigate the spread of Voidwoken until he is able to ascend.
